NHS holds on for win over Dogs

Dec. 14, 2006

A Nicolet lead shrunk Dec. 7, but visiting Cedarburg missed a 16-foot baseline jumper with two seconds left and the Knights held on for a 52-50 North Shore Conference win.

"We actually had a 24-11 lead at one point," Knight coach Paul Hepp said, "but things like turnovers and missed free throws all made it very close. But we're such a young team and I know Cedarburg will be a good squad by the end of the year, so to come out with a win in this situation speaks highly of our effort."

The Knights improved to 3-0 with the win. They will be at Milwaukee Lutheran on Friday, Dec. 15, and then will be at Homestead on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.

Hepp said defensive pressure allowed the Knights to break out to a 34-22 halftime lead on the Bulldogs. He said that Josh Washington and Jabez Deacon did a great job on Cedarburg's Luke Doedens and Ryan Stauss, holding them to a combined total of 21 points.

Cedarburg had closed the gap to 46-39 by the end of three quarters. Nicolet was led by Antonio Dickens and Washington with 13 points apiece while Deacon had eight and Joshua Sarnowski seven.
