A man who admitted driving under the influence when he crashed a van while transporting disabled adults has been sent to the House of Correction for six months.
Paul G. Porter, 34, of West Bend will get release privileges for work and child care under the sentence issued Wednesday by Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Mary Triggiano.
Porter had been drinking beer and smoking marijuana while transporting group home residents on Thanksgiving Day, according to a criminal complaint. They had been visiting family and he was returning them to their group home in Brown Deer.
Porter's blood-alcohol level of 0.24 was three times the level of 0.08 considered evidence of intoxication, according to Brown Deer police.
Mount Castle Corp., a Milwaukee company that runs residential facilities, said it fired Porter after the accident, which caused minor injuries to several residents.
