District to hold 2009-10 budget presentation

Brown Deer - The School District will host its 2009-2010 budget presentation at 6:30 p.m. June 8 at the Multicultural Arts Center in Brown Deer High School, 8060 N. 60th St.

The Finance and Facilities Committee meeting is open to questions and comments from Brown Deer residents, parents, students, taxpayers, school district employees and business partners.

School Board names new Atwater principal

Shorewood - The Shorewood School Board named Timothy Kenney principal of Atwater School at its May 26 board meeting.

Kenny was a math teacher for 10 years at Shorewood High School and for the last two years has been assistant principal at the high school.

Kenny has an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master's degree from Marian College.

He will replace Bonni Haber who is retiring.

School Board selects contractor for remodeling

Shorewood - J.P. Cullen & Sons was the lower bidder for several Shorewood School District projects that were funded in the 2008 referendum.

The School Board awarded a $1,443,199 contract to the company, which will act as general contractor for the remodeling of the Shorewood High School library and several smaller maintenance projects in the Administrative Building.

North Shore Library elects board officers

Glendale - The North Shore Library Board of Trustees has elected its 2009-2010 officers. They are Thomas Nedwek, Glendale, president; Suzanne Saletra, Bayside, vice president; Mardee Gruen, Fox Point, treasurer; and Venora McKinney, Glendale, secretary.

Standing committee chairs selected are Finance, Gruen; Long Range Planning, JoAnn Shaw, Glendale; and Personnel, McKinney.

Nicolet issues final and partial layoff notices

Glendale - The Nicolet School Board issued final and partial layoff notices to the director of curriculum and instruction, teachers and paraprofessionals last week.

Receiving final layoff notices were Jocelyn Sulsberger, director of curriculum and instruction; Jessica Beaman, Trace Lindgren and Pam Salm, teachers; and Mary Foran, Aaron Goyette, Marilyn Parish, Alison Smokoful and Steve Younk, paraprofessionals.

Partial layoff notices were issued to the following teachers: Kristin Cook, Marilyn Cook, Rachel Gramdorf, Aleta Gretenhardt, Kathy Gustavson, Nicole Mueller, Bridget Nimmer and Mark Wagner. Teachers receiving partial notices will teach fewer hours than they did during the current school year.

Foundation awards grants to Shorewood schools

Shorewood - The Shorewood Seed Foundation presented grants totaling $18,000 to various Shorewood schools last week.

The foundation awarded $8,471 for safety upgrades to the Shorewood High School chemistry classroom and labs; $1,679 for a mini DVD digital camera, LCD projector and a digital television for the high school; $1,708 for Elements at Shorewood Intermediate School to enhance the new computer lab and graphics instruction; $1,700 for three LCD projectors and one lamp for Atwater School.

Foundation starts to raise funds for technology

Glendale-River Hills - The Glendale-River Hills Foundation is contacting parents and alumni to raise funds to purchase an innovative Apple Mobile Learning Lab for Parkway School.

Designed specifically for schools, the Apple Mobile Learning Lab provides teachers and students with flexible, affordable and convenient access to technology.
