Waymar Orthopedic retains PKA Marketing
Waymar Orthopedic Technologies, a distributor of specialty orthopedic products, has retained PKA Marketing, 11053 N. Towne Square Road, Mequon, to create new branding and corporate identity materials.
Waymar, based in Mequon, distributes orthopedic products in Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Brown Deer firm nominated for environmental award
Anguil Environmental Systems of Brown Deer is one of 36 Wisconsin companies nominated for the Business Friend of the Environment Awards, honoring leadership in pollution prevention, environmental innovation and stewardship.
The awards, sponsored by the Wisconsin Environmental Working Group, will be presented during the 20th annual Environmental Policy and Awards Conference on Thursday, May 14, at the Country Springs Conference Center in Waukesha.
Thiel Design wins marketing awards
Thiel Design, founded by Mequon residents John and Norene Thiel, recently won three awards from the Milwaukee Business Marketing Association.
The firm received the association's Bell Award, the highest award in each category, for outstanding design of a brand identity program developed for Graef. Thiel also received Excellence Awards for design of Snap-on and Badger Meter annual reports.
Thiel Design is located in Milwaukee's Third Ward.
Sobczak to lead petroleum marketers association
Jack Sobczak, general manager of sales and marketing at Lakeside Oil Co., Fox Point, has been appointed chairman of the board of the Wisconsin Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association.
He has been with Lakeside Oil Co. for more than 30 years and is a past president of both the Milwaukee Oilmen's Club and the Green Bay Montessori School. He also served in the 128th Air Refueling Wing of the Air National Guard.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries opens at Bayshore
A new dining option, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, has opened at Bayshore Town Center, Glendale.
The first Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant opened in 1986 in Arlington, Va. Since then, the franchise has grown to more than 400 locations nationwide.
Eastern Shore Products taps PKA Marketing
PKA Marketing, 11053 N. Towne Square Road, Mequon, has been named marketing agency of record for Eastern Shore Forest Products of Salisbury, Md.
PKA will handle the launch of a new concept in consumer gardening products under the Expert Garden Systems brand. The agency will produce all marketing communications, including logo design, Web/interactive development, print advertising, sales literature, home and garden show displays, and public relations.
North Shore contestants named business plan finalists
Ophir Ben-Yitschak of Scopia, Bayside, and Greg Gulick of Medtric, Whitefish Bay, have been named finalists in the sixth annual Wisconsin Governor's Business Plan Contest.
Twenty-one entries from communities across the state are competing in the final round of judging.
The contestants have survived two rounds of judging in the contest, organized through the Wisconsin Technology Council, which produces the contest in conjunction with the Wisconsin Innovation Network, the Wisconsin Angel Network and other statewide affiliates.
Contestants submit a 20-page business plan for review. Each plan describes the core product or service, customer base, market size estimates, competition and management team, and provides key financial data.
About $150,000 in cash and in-kind prizes have been pledged for the 2009 contest; first prize is $50,000 in cash and services. Winners will be announced in June at the seventh annual Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Conference in Milwaukee.
Glendale firm wins national NARI award
B&E General Contractors in Glendale won a national award at the recent National Association of the Remodeling Industry's Evening of Excellence in Atlanta, Ga.
The firm was the winner in the residential addition $100,000 to $250,000 category. Judging was based on problem-solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.
Bay doctor named Champion in Women's Health
Dr. Anne Hoch of Whitefish Bay has been named a 2009 Champion in Women's Health award-winner by the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation.
The award honors individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and devoted themselves to improving the quality of life for women and families. Winners are nominated by their peers.
Hoch won the award for her work regarding osteoporosis. She is director of Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Women's Sports Medicine Program and an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Stritch MBA program receives top ranking
Cardinal Stritch University was listed first among the 15 largest Milwaukee area graduate business programs by the Milwaukee Business Journal.
The university has been offering a masters in business administration degree since 1986 and enrolls 831 students. The Business Journal survey indicated Stritch has the third lowest tuition with a student-to-instructor ratio of 11-to-1.
Stritch also began offering an online MBA program in February 2009.
Marcus Theatres to install new digital 3-D screens
Officials at Marcus Theatres, a division of the Marcus Corp., have announced plans to install new digital 3-D systems at its locations throughout the Midwest, including North Shore Cinemas in Mequon and South Shore Cinemas in Oak Creek.
Bruce J. Olson, president of Marcus Theatres, said the RealD 3D technology dramatically improves quality and offers more realistic images for moviegoers.
The technology already has been installed at Marcus Majestic Cinema in Brookfield, Ridge Cinemas in New Berlin and Menomonee Falls Cinema, Menomonee Falls.
Lighting firm recognized for LED product
SPI Lighting, 10400 N. Enterprise Dr., Mequon, has announced that its STILE Beam LED product was accepted into the 2008 Illuminating Engineering Society of North America's Progress Report and recognized as a "significant development and improvement to the industry."
