Want to have a bigger say in your local government? A number of seats are up for grabs throughout the North Shore in 2013, to be filled in the April 2 spring election. If necessary, a primary is held Feb. 19 to narrow the list of candidates in the general election. Incumbents and challengers must submit a campaign registration statement, declaration of candidacy and nomination papers by 5 p.m. Jan. 2 (after press deadline) to their local filing officer. Incumbents wishing not to run must submit a declaration of noncandidacy by 5 p.m. Dec. 21. Nomination papers are available at local village or city halls for village board, common council and municipal judge positions. Campaign registration statements and declaration of candidacy forms are available at local school districts. All forms are available at the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board website, gab.wi.gov, by following the "Elections" and "Candidates - Getting on the Ballot" links.
