·Lauren Hammer of Shorewood was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society, Oct. 27. Hammer is studying religious studies and Spanish at the College of the Holy Cross. Alpha Sigma Nu seeks out students at Jesuit institutions of higher learning who embody and live out the values of scholarship, loyalty and service. Candidates in the top 15 percent of their class are invited to apply, and from this group, membership is awarded to only 4 percent.


· On Oct. 25, Sammy Fielkow of Bayside delivered more than 100 children's books to Next Door's Books for Kids program, a giving library that supplies books for preschoolers and their families in Milwaukee's central city. Before school started, the 13-year-old, sent a letter to her friends and family members explaining her involvement with Books for Kids. She asked them to donate books as part of her bat mitzvah project and then she brought the books to Next Door, 2545 N. 29th St. She also volunteered over the summer in the Book for Kids' kindergarten camp
