Albert Rivero of Whitefish Bay was recognized for his ability to translate Latin text by Marquette University's Department of Foreign Languages with the President's Latin Contest Level I Award for his translation of Cicero's essay "De Senectute." The award is sponsored by the Eta Sigma Phi Classis Honor Society.
Laura Schroeder of Shorewood, a cultural anthropology student at Lewis & Clark in Portland, Ore., studied and volunteered abroad for three weeks this summer in Cuzco, Peru, through the National Registration Center for Study Abroad. Her program consisted of one week of Spanish language immersion classes, two weeks of volunteering at an orphanage named Azul Wasi, and a three-week stay with a local family.
Daniel Bolens of Whitefish Bay, a civil engineering student at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, earned the Grace M. Johnson Scholarship ($1,000).
Homestead High School senior Meredith Bobber, 17, was accepted to attend Interlochen Arts Camp, the world's premier summer arts program for aspiring artists grades three through 12, this summer. Meredith, the daughter of Bud and Joyce Bobber of Mequon, is a ballet student. She has danced for 14 years at North Shore Dance Studio, studying ballet, jazz, contemporary and lyrical. Her solos have won awards at numerous competitions, including national honors at the Showstoppers competition at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. At Homestead, she has appeared in several plays and musicals; she sings in the choir; and she is an officer in the HHS National Honor Society.
