As you change your clocks tomorrow morning for daylight savings time, don't forget to also change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector are the only things in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire or carbon monoxide problem 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you’re awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector is constantly on alert, scanning the air for fire and smoke or carbon monoxide, yet without a working battery, these devices cannot do their job.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties without working smoke alarms. A working smoke alarm significantly increases your chances of surviving a deadly home fire. For more information on smoke detectors visit
