How Quickly can We Raise Taxes?

I don't know whether I am amazed or dismayed by the election results. Not talking about the presidential race of course, that was not a surprise. However, some of the other results are going to have far reaching and possibly your reversible effects. This of course involves raising taxes.

I find it hard to believe that a referendum would pass that involves $130 million of new taxes being imposed on citizens and as an alternative only offering $67 million of tax relief. The only good explanation for this would be how the tax-and-spend liberals were to just out to confuse people who did not read and understand the proposal. Instead they offered misleading statements like property taxes are going to be reduced. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are also reports from people who claim to be sane yet are trying to tell me that the parks in Milwaukee County are being used by people from out of state. I have gone past many parks in the Milwaukee County system yet I have not seen an overrun of out-of-state plates and people from outside the county who are sucking all of the park's services and not paying property taxes. However the solution to this is to increase the sales tax in these out-of-state parks users will be making up the difference and more by buying all of our goods and services being offered by businesses adjacent to the County Parks. I'd like to see the math to support this. Why are out-of-state people suddenly going to buy goods and services now that the sales tax is increased? Are the parks going to get that much better that quickly?

The same media who are telling me that the buses are in dire need of a huge pile of money are the same liberal media who five minutes later a ready to tell me how violent riding the bus is getting. They show surveillance video of riders beating up the driver. Yeah, I want to ride the bus. They show surveillance video of people getting beat up while waiting at the bus stop. Yeah, I want to ride the bus. During the summer festivals, they want citizens to ride the bus down to the lakefront to slop down a lot of beer and food as proud Milwukeans. Then at midnight, when it's time to go home, the buses are full of loud obnoxious, drunk riders were throwing up all over the bus. Yeah, I want to ride the bus.

The Democratic majority in the state assembly will also just about guarantee that taxes are going to go up on the state level. The liberal agenda will include high levels of spending and wishful support for state income that will support and balance the budget. But even in the best of times, the tax revenue will not come close to covering the liberal agenda and the tax-and-spend agenda which is forthcoming. Government run healthcare will be back on the agenda in the state Democrats are just salivating at the chance to pass a law that will increase the sales tax here in Milwaukee County.

I don't understand why there seems to be such a large portion to get more government into our lives. People are have voted for more regulation, more government intrusion, and less freedom. According to Joe Biden, it is patriotic to pay more taxes. It is selfish to keep what you have earned. Yet it is unpatriotic to have the patriot act. I'm looking for logic. And I'm not finding any. Our next president is calling redistributing income opportunity. Isn't opportunity going out and achieving things on your own? It's too bad everyone has bought into the belief that our lives are shaped by things that happen to us. By forces and circumstances that we have no control over, they're outer-directed people.

People today are looking for a plateau of so-called security. What they should be deciding is how high above this plateau they want to aim. At a time when medical research has raised as to the plateau of good health and longevity, far too many people are worrying themselves sick trying to cope with things in their own little personal ways. Instead they could be learning a few great laws that will take care of everything. These things we bring on ourselves through our ritual way of thinking. Each one of us is the sum total of his own thoughts we are where we are because that's exactly where we want to be. This is true whether we want to admit it or not. Yes, we are all self made, but only the successful will admit it.
