Recap of the Edible Book Festival

On February 19, the library hosted our first ever Edible Book Festival. An edible book is an item made from food that has something to do with books. We had a total of 16 entries, all of which were really creative, inventive, and just plain awesome. We let the community decide which ones were their favorites.  It was hard to choose but after nearly 100 votes were cast, we had our winners.

The first category was for individuals. We had 4 entries in this category, and the winner was anadorable replica of Olivia the Pig, created by Taisiya. Congratulations Taisiya!

Our next category was the family category, which had 7 entries.  It was great to see so many different books represented in this category including The Giving Tree, The Fault in our Stars, and Ramona and Her Mother.  The winner in this category was based on the classic The Hobbit. Congratulations to Angela, Gwyne and Ella who created this incredibly detailed Hobbit Hole.

We couldn’t let the public have all the fun; library staff and Friends of the Whitefish Bay Library wanted to participate as well. The five entries in this category celebrated The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Life of Pi, and the Book of Monsters from Harry Potter. The winning entry was from Friends with their rendition of a Little Free Library.

Thank you Whitefish Bay for making this an unforgettable event! And get your thinking caps on. You have an entire year to think of an idea to enter for next year’s Edible Book Festival.
