My country.

Republicans, Democrats, Liberals and Tea Partiers, all those who shake that little book at me with the Constitution written on it, most of the guys involved in its writing owned slaves.  Africans born equal, but in slavery.

I don’t see in that thicker book where God said that slave ownership was the road to God’s kingdom.

How many of us remember that Lincoln, the first elected Republican president was an abolitionist, against cession and fought to hold the union together?   Tea Partiers do you remember that?  Do some of us remember that the Democrats dominated the “Jim Crow” South and that lynching was designed to keep blacks in the their place.

Slaves were counted as 3/5 a person in the Constitution only for political purpose, in order to gain a bit more State power, not to provide the God-given rights of the equality that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights guarantees.

It is very difficult for people of unfaithfulness to accept that there is a growing majority who believe in equality and are pleased that a black man not even of slave ancestry born of a white mother in the United States was elected and re-elect the president of all of us in the great U.S. of A.

That must hurt Tea Partiers, especially.  We can see it.  We can feel that it does.  Before you know it, we’ll have a president elected, born of a Mexican mother in the United States.  The Republican Party will start to burn from the far right and explode before it begins to reach the middle.

We are not a nation of angels but we are a nation in spite of ourselves that is reaching for a God given principal, equality.  Let’s keep stretching for and let’s keep expressing the good in us that the rest of the world also admires.  Democrats and Republicans alike, let’s forget about exclusion and cession.

Let’s emphasize what the Constitution and the Bill of Rights meant to do, provide for equality and coming together, not desolation and division.
