Do you ever wonder WHY? we, or others do certain things -- or WHY there are certain rules or laws -- or WHY the CW ( conventional wisdom) is whatever on a particular topic?
I often wonder WHY -- hence this blog.
I thought it would be interesting and fun to write some WHY postings on my blog --- and hopefully get some reaction from readers on their take of the subject.
As the first WHY blog ... I wonder WHY ARE LIQUOR, BEER AND WINE SALES FROM RETAIL BANNED AFTER 9:00 PM?
Liquor stores all have to close at 9:00 PM --- also grocery stores and other retail outlets have to stop their alcoholic beverage sales by 9:00 PM also.
HOWEVER -- Bars and Restaurants can keep serving drinks until late in the night !
Here is my dilemma on this law.
Increasingly, our society does not want people to Drink and Drive. We say if you drink - don't drive.
But then, we eliminate one of the ways to prevent Drinking and Driving!!!
If some friends get together at someone's house, and they decide they want to have some drinks -- but the home bar is bare, and it is after 9:00 PM --- they have to Drive to a Bar (presuming there aren't any within walking distance) --- do their Drinking at the Bar and the Drive back home.
Wouldn't it make more sense for them to be able to go to a Liquor store, ora grocery store --- Buy the alcohol there --- and then Drive Home and Drink at Home without the need to Drive Home after Drinking?
WHAT DO YOU THINK? WHY DO WE HAVE THIS CONTRADICTORY LAW?
